Margaret Jane "Peg" Armagost

1936 - 2026

Margaret "Peg" Jane Armagost (née Lyle), lovingly known as Peg, age 89, of Brookville, passed away on Monday, March 30, 2026 in Brookville.

Born June 19, 1936, in Ridgway, she was the daughter of Olive Jane Sprankle and Marlin E. Lyle Sr., both of whom preceded her in death.

She was united in marriage to Howard Thomas Armagost in March 1955, building a life rooted in family and devotion.

Survivors include her two daughters, Rene (Ronald) Galbraith and Lisa Jane Rearick (née Armagost); five grandchildren, Zeb Redford, Tai Redford, Roe Cantu (née Redford), Ryan Michael Rearick and Sarah Jane Rearick; and four great-grandchildren, Levi Brunt, Davin Cantu, Jacen Redford and Dylan Redford.

She is also survived by her siblings, Marlin (Mary) E. Lyle Jr. of Oak Ridge, Paula Hinderliter (née Helmheckel) of Clarion and Dana Helmheckel of Sigel.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Joyce (Everett) L. Neill of Sigel and Mary Lee Hill of Springville, N.Y.

Peg's life was marked by curiosity, intelligence and generosity. While living in New York, she, along with her husband, owned and operated Jane's Upholstery Shop, taking pride in craftsmanship, bookkeeping and work ethic.

She was also proud of her volunteer involvement as a vocal and engaged member of the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) during her daughters' school years.

Peg was known for her unwavering loyalty to family and her sharp wit. A meticulous note-taker and highly organized individual, she possessed both intelligence and humor. She found joy in writing, frequently contributing letters to the editor of local newspapers.

She also had a deep love for nature - delighting in the wildlife that surrounded her home. An accomplished gardener and avid birder, Peg spent countless hours tending to her gardens and identifying birds by sight and sound.

She had a very talented hand at doing Crewel work of all different types of sceneries and florals.

During her years in New York, Peg also embraced winter activities and was a member of the Concord Ridge Rider Snowmobile Club, a pastime she greatly enjoyed.

She had a lifelong affection for cats and dogs, often speaking fondly of the many pets she owned throughout the years.
