Margaret G. Benoit, a resident of Malden, MA and Melbourne, FL, passed away peacefully at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at age 97. Margaret was born in Pomquet, Nova Scotia on May 8, 1924, daughter of the late Joseph and Ida Benoit. One of eight children, Margaret was raised on a farm on the coast of Nova Scotia where her self-reliance, hard work and independence was instilled. At the young age of 18, she moved to Everett and began working at Converse Rubber, sewing eyelets on combat boots for soldiers of WWII. She was married in 1946, and settled in Somerville where she nurtured her own family of eight children. Margaret was a hardworking woman who provided a foundation for her family to succeed. She deftly managed the physical and emotional needs of her eight children while allowing them the opportunity to grow independently. With her outgoing nature, she maintained an open door for all friends and neighbors with an unconditional and welcoming home. A loyal and loving woman, Margaret maintained many friendships that she held dear to her heart. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters in Somerville, and in her free time enjoyed bowling, and playing cards socially. A loving wife, she and husband Dan enjoyed many trips, traveling across the world to experience new places together. Margaret was a loving and generous woman who shared her kind heart with everyone around her. She excelled at being a homemaker, providing for her family while maintaining her home for all. She will be deeply missed, but her many blessings shared with family will carry on as her lasting legacy. May she rest in peace. Margaret was the beloved wife of the late Daniel R. Benoit with whom she shared 52 years of marriage. Devoted mother of Paul Benoit and his wife Jerri of Palm Bay, FL, Jeanne Benoit of Melbourne, FL, Elaine Van Nostrand of Wakefield, Ann Connors of Melbourne, FL, Daniel J. Benoit and his wife Christine of Ft. Myers, FL, Denise Gibbons of Melbourne, FL, Patricia Maillet of Malden, Peter Benoit and his wife Kim of Center Ossipee, NH, and #9 Marianne DiMare of Orlando, FL. Dear sister of Arthur Benoit of Boscawen, NH, and the late Ethel, Irene, Rita, Josephine, Theresa, and Peter. Cherished grandmother of Christopher Benoit, Michael Benoit, Jennifer Parrish-Hill, Timothy Van Nostrand and his wife Meghan, Daniel Van Nostrand and his wife Cristina, Major Eric Connors, US Air Force, Danielle Scrima, Michelle Scrima, Adam Maillet and his wife Jenn, Rachelle Maillet, Mikayla Maillet, Amanda Benoit, and Brittany Benoit. Proud great-grandmother of 6 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are invited to gather in honor of Margaret's life during visiting hours at the Robinson Funeral Home, 809 Main St., Melrose on Wednesday, Feb. 23 from 4-8pm, and again on Thursday at 9am before leaving in procession to St. Joseph's Church, 173 Albion St., Wakefield for her Funeral Mass celebrated at 10am.
