Margaret Ann "Margie" Bischoff Magruder, 96, of
Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by family on October 29, 2025.
Born on June 4, 1929, in Louisville to Joseph and Mary (Mame) Tobbe Bischoff, Margie lived a full and loving life dedicated to faith, family, and friendship. She was a proud graduate of Mercy Academy, Class of 1947, and later enjoyed a long and successful career as an Executive Secretary at Curtis 1000, where she was known for her professionalism, organization, and warmth.
In 1948, Margie married the love of her life, Guy Magruder, and together they shared an extraordinary 73 years of marriage until his passing in 2021. Their partnership was one of deep devotion and adventure - traveling through all 50 states and Canada, always side by side.
Margie was a woman of many talents. A gifted musician, she played the piano, organ, and accordion, often filling her home with joyful music well into her nineties. An extraordinary quilter, she pieced and hand-quilted over 100 quilts, each stitched with love and often given as treasured gifts to family and friends. Even at the time of her passing, a quilt remained on her frame - a testament to her creativity and generous spirit.
Margie's home was the heart of countless gatherings. She loved to entertain, bake her delicious homemade pies, and celebrate holidays-especially Christmas, when her aluminum tree stood as a symbol of joy and family tradition. Every grandchild and great-grandchild remembers lying beneath that revolving tree, mesmerized by its glow. Known for her meticulous organization, Margie lived by her own wise sayings: "A place for everything and everything in its place," "Less said, the better," "Pray," and "Turn the page-new chapter." Her guiding rule for her daughters-"Act right"-said it all.
Margie was the family historian, able to recall birthdays of relatives dating back to the 1800s. She was deeply devoted to her family, friends, and many nieces and nephews, and was especially fond of Bowie, her grandson's loyal dog who never left her side.
Margie is now reunited in Heaven with her beloved Guy, precious daughter Nancy Magruder Thomas, cherished son-in-law Frank P. Mattingly, and her siblings Bernard, Mary Cecilia Bierman, Ruth Maeser, Joseph E., Leo, James, and Joan Senninger.
She is lovingly survived by her daughters Mary Anne Mattingly, Laura Miller (Victor), and son-in-law John Thomas; beloved grandchildren Susan Stroud (Jon), Julia Frith (Charles), Paul Mattingly (Ellery), Ben Mattingly (Alyssa), Chris Mattingly (Asia), Scott Richardson (Beth), Nick Miller (Amelia), Amy Miller, and Donnie Thomas; and her great-grandchildren Jacob, Isaac, Katelyn, Landon, Elijah, Leeanne, Vivian, Caroline, Riley, Ben Jr., Roman, William Guy, Liliana, Ian, Madison, and Elizabeth.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 3, 2025, from 1:00–8:00 PM at Ratterman and Sons Funeral Home, 3800 Bardstown Road. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, at 10:00 AM at St. Martha Catholic Church, 2825 Klondike Lane. Burial will follow at St. Edward Cemetery,
Jeffersontown, Kentucky.
Margie's life was a shining example of love, faith, family, and joy. Her legacy will continue in every quilt, every pie, and every memory she lovingly created.
