Margaret Dolores Burkshot ObituaryMargaret "Dolores" Burkshot, of South Amboy, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 22, 2025, at Care One in East Brunswick.
Born and raised in South Amboy, Dolores devoted her life to her family and community. She worked as a secretary for the family business, Burkshot Excavating, before retiring to spend more time with her loved ones. A talented cook and devoted wife, Dolores especially cherished traveling with her husband, Ronald.
Their adventures began with a camper parked at the Jersey Shore, where she loved taking her children and grandchildren. Later, they purchased a vacation home in Pennsylvania, and eventually a motorhome, which took them on a journey across 43 states in the U.S. Dolores and Ron also traveled internationally, visiting 20 countries together.
Above all, Dolores was a loving mother, grandmother, and friend. She was truly one of a kind, and her greatest joy was her family. She will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Dolores was predeceased by her adored husband Ronald Burkshot of 64 years in 2020 as well as her parents Joseph & Margaret Surman. She is survived by her four Children and their spouses: Loree Roser (Frank), Leslie Broznak (Steve), Lois Loy (Dave), Ronald Burkshot (Jennifer). Her 11 grandchildren and spouses: Neal (Tatiana), Alyssa (Eric), Adam, Arlee (Dylan), Aubree, Dan (Allie), Catie (Nick), Arianna, Charles, Billy, and Evan and seven great grandchildren Hailey, Kylie, Landon, Connor, Eliana, Michaela and Hadley.
A funeral mass will take place Monday at 10am at Sacred Heart Church in South Amboy. A graveside service will follow at New Calvary Cemetery in Parlin. Calling hours at The Carmen F. Spezzi Funeral Home, Parlin will be Sunday 2pm to 6pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donation be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
