Margaret Rosalie Burnett

DURHAM– Margaret Rosalie Burnett, 95, passed away on Wednesday, December 24, 2025, at Hock Family Pavilion. She was born in Queens, New York, to the late Christian Walter Mueller and Stephanie Tiersch Mueller. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Harold Joseph Burnett, her son, Thomas Burnett, her daughter, Diane Burnett, and seven brothers.
Margaret lived a long, beautiful life full of love and many memorable moments. As a younger woman she worked in a variety of bakeries ultimately retiring from Publix in Sunrise, Florida. She enjoyed bowling, soap operas, and her Christmas snowman named Marvin. Her great-grandchildren will enjoy Marvin for many years to come.
Margaret is survived by her two daughters (and their spouses), Nancy Carter-Griffin (William Griffin) and Valerie Burnett (Jeff Chamberlin) and her daughter-in-law, Roxanne Burnett. She will also be missed by her grandchildren and their partners, Brendan Griffin (Yiming Wang), Joseph Burnett (Megan Burnett), Daniel Carter (Britany Carter), Patrick Carter (Brittany LaMonaca), Selena Burnett, and Jessica Burnett. Great grandchildren called her Lao Nai Nai and include William Griffin and Audrey Griffin. The entire family would like to thank the faithful service of the staff at Carolina Reserve of Durham and the Duke Hospice Care team.
Margaret bravely donated her brain to help further the research on ataxia. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the National Ataxia Foundation www.ataxia.org/donate. The family is celebrating her life with a funeral mass at Holy Infant Catholic Church in the future. She will be interred with her late husband at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Florida.
