Margaret Brown Burns, 86, of La Porte, Indiana, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2025 at Brickyard Terrace Care in La Porte, IN.
She was born May 25, 1939 in Lenoir City, Tennessee, the daughter of Erwin Dexter Rogers and Betty (Brawner) Rogers.
A longtime resident of La Porte, Margaret moved here with her husband and son from Tennessee in 1965. She worked as a medical supply inspector for Gettig Enterprises (formerly Stelreema Corp.), from where she retired. Countless people in the area also know her as a Walmart greeter, a job which she dearly loved. Margaret was an active member of the Harvest Time Church of God, teaching Sunday School to the preschoolers, singing in the choir and working with the ladies’ ministries. She was a cub scout den mother for her son when he was young, and loved baking and decorating cakes, especially for family events. Margaret's family was very precious to her, especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandson and she will be immensely missed by them all.
Margaret was fortunate enough to have two loving husbands, the first who was the father of her son, John Brown, who passed away Sept. 29, 2010 and Norman Burns, who passed away January 26, 2025. She was also preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Jimmy Rogers, Vernon Rogers, Roy Allen Rogers; brothers-in-law, Bill Jenkins and Buck Dailey.
She is survived by her son, Thomas (Veronica) Brown of Richmond, IN; three brothers, Donnie (Charlotte) Rogers of Lenoir City, TN, Lewis (Ruth) Rogers of Lenoir City, TN, Jay (Angela) Rogers of Lenoir City, TN; nine sisters, Bonnie Daily of Lenoir City, TN, Linda Jenkins of Lenoir City, TN, Lola (Tommy) Moats of Lenoir City, TN, Nancy (Darryl) Hale of La Porte, IN, Judy (Larry) Harris of Brightwood, VA, Karen (Gary) Patty of Lenoir City, TN, Betty Hopkins of Lenoir City, TN, Patsy (David) Miller of Lenoir City, TN, Missy Rogers of Lenoir City, TN; sister-in-law, Becky Rogers; four grandchildren, Jason (AnnMarie) Brown, Joseph Brown, Jeffrey Hale, Kimberly Hale; great-grandchildren, Nicholas, Jacob, Mackenzie(Parker); great-great-grandson, Cooper and a large extended family.
Arrangements are being entrusted to Haverstock Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN where the family will receive friends for a viewing on Monday, June 9, 2025 from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Margaret will then travel to Lenoir City, TN for a funeral service and interment at the Lenoir City Cemetery.
