Margaret Cook Obituary

Margaret M. (nee Armstrong) Cook, 87, of Bay Terrace, passed away on September 28, 2025, at Staten Island University Hospital North. Born one of 10 children on February 3, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY.
The legacy of her kind and loving spirit is carried on by her devoted husband of 64 years, Henry Cook.
She was lucky enough to find, Henry, the love of her life at the early age of 20. Together they built a beautiful life filled with lots of laughter, and even more love. Margaret is survived by two children, Dr. Michael Cook (nuclear radiologist) & daughter Lisa, son-in-law Rob Cugini; three grandchildren that she adored, RJ Cugini & wife Lydia, Tom Cugini, and Caroline Cugini who will forever hold her memory dear. Margaret's sister Eileen (often referred to as her "twin" sister) and her husband Tom Rail will cherish the memories they shared. She was also blessed with many nieces and nephews.
Margaret enjoyed her career at Moravian Cemetery in New Dorp for over 20 years, eventually assuming the position of Controller.
She was not one to be deterred. As a teen, Margaret accepted a position as a typist, even though she did not know how to type. She then purchased a typewriter so she could learn the new skill! Her employer was thrilled with her performance until she explained that she'd be leaving to go back to school since she was only 16!
In her spare time and in retirement, Margaret was a voracious reader with a particular interest in fiction thrillers and would frequently knock off a novel in a day. Family gatherings also gave her great joy and were often punctuated by dressing up in costumes like Mrs. Claus, Queen Victoria or an Easter Bunny. Margaret exhibited a near photographic memory and could recall every key date for family member's life achievements like birthdays, anniversaries etc.
Family and friends will be received at Hanley Funeral Home tomorrow, Wednesday, October 1st from 4-8 p.m. On Thursday morning, October 2nd, there will be a final viewing at Hanley Funeral Home at 9:15 a.m. A Catholic mass will be celebrated at St. Charles Church in Oakwood at 10:15 a.m. followed by burial at Moravian Cemetery.
