Margaret Ann "Poncelet" Cunningham

Margaret Ann (Poncelet) Cunningham, age 92, earned her angel wings on March 15, 2026, surrounded by loved ones at Heritage Cottages in Park Rapids, MN.

She was born on June 17, 1933, in Akeley, MN, daughter of Anna and Carl Poncelet. She grew up on a farm, the oldest of 10 children.

Margaret was known as an amazing cook, avid gardener and had a deep Catholic faith. She was continually creating decorations for each season of the year. You could smell her cooking a mile away. We were all lucky recipients of many treats, cakes, pies and cookies. At any given holiday, there was no better place to be.

She had a gigantic vegetable garden and creatively canned much of what was grown. Each Fall, a harvest of wonderful MN native flowers would be created. It was a special time.

She was legendary for her laugh and big smile, a happy person, that would make anyone laugh along with her as it was her way of communicating.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Morris; daughter, Anne; 3 brothers, Charles, Jerome, Bill; and 1 sister, Barbara.

Margaret leaves behind 3 children, Bernie (Robin) of Snellman, MN, Ed (Andrea) of Savage, MN and Joanie Cunningham of Wayzata, MN; 2 grandchildren, Rebekkah (Bernie) and Ian (Ed); 3 sisters, Betty (Nick) Kowalke, Ceil (Martin) Merk, Mary (W.T.) Mixon; 2 brothers, John (Marge) and Tony (Dolly) Poncelet, all of Akeley, MN: and many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM Monday, March 23, 2026 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Park Rapids with visitation for 1 hour prior (305 5th St. W). Burial follows the service at St. Peter's Cemetery followed by a luncheon at the church for a time of celebration and remembrance.
