Margaret "Peggy" DiIenno, of Upper Southampton, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024. Peggy was one of 14 children born in Philadelphia, to the late Anna (nee Natchez) and Francis Leo McDonough. She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Edward E. DiIenno, and son Edward M. DiIenno (late Leslie). Peggy is survived by her children, Thomas, Michael, Susan, and Robert DiIenno (Kimberly); grandchildren, Kelliann DiIenno DellaPenna (Joseph), Amanda DiIenno (Matthew Fullmer), Edward DiIenno, Gabrielle DiIenno, Nicole DiIenno, and Emma DiIenno; two great-grandsons; brothers, Robert and Ronald McDonough; and many nieces and nephews, including her "favorite daughter," Lisa Schellinger.
Early on, Peggy happily took on the role of cook for her parents and siblings, fostering her love of hosting family and friends in her home. While working at Home Life Insurance Company in Philadelphia, Peggy met her beloved husband Ed when he just had to find out about the young girl in the field office who challenged his decisions. They married in April 1957 and raised five children in Philadelphia, then moved to the new family home in Southampton where she later welcomed two of her sisters to the neighborhood. The nearness of family and Peggy's love of entertaining and cooking ensured that her house was always full of love and laughter. An out-of-town visit from friends or family always included a gathering at Peggy's house. And no summer was complete without the holiday picnics and the annual ROSTA get-together. In her spare time, Peggy was very involved with Our Lady of Good Counsel parish, making meals for those in need and volunteering at Caring for Friends – when she wasn't traveling or playing the slot machines at the casinos.
Above all, Peggy took great pride in her family as well as her role as homemaker, boasting of the accomplishments of her children and grandchildren and making sure everybody felt welcomed at her house. Peggy was deeply cherished, and will be greatly missed.
Peggy's family will receive relatives and friends on Monday evening, November 25, 2024, from 6 to 8PM, at the McGhee-Givnish Funeral Home, 690 Belmont Ave. Southampton, PA 18966. A second visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, from 10 to 11AM at Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, 611 Knowles Ave. Southampton, PA 18966. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11AM. Interment is to be held privately at the request of Peggy's family.
