North Augusta - Margaret Stegin Dulohery passed away peacefully on February 11, 2025. The oldest child of Frank and Ruby Stegin, she was born on October 17, 1939 in Savannah, GA. She attended Blessed Sacrament School, St. Vincent's Academy, St. Joseph's School of Nursing and Armstrong University where she was valedictorian at all. She received the Miss St. Joseph's award, Outstanding Senior award, the McAuley award and the Gartland award.

She worked for many years at St. Joseph's Hospital as a Staff Nurse, Head Nurse, Hospital Supervisor and in Patient Education. She founded Hope House of Savannah, a home helping single mothers and their children. She volunteered as the only nurse for Hospice Savannah during it's early days. She served on many school, church and Catholic Diocese of Savannah committees and boards. Among these were the Board of Hospice of Savannah, Savannah Teen Task Force, the Hope House Board, The Foster Grandparent Program, the Union Camp Scholarship Committee, and the American Diabetes Association. She was a class mother (many times) and was involved in the leadership of Marriage Encounter and Cursillo.

After her retirement, she moved to Tybee Island with her husband where she joined the Tybee Island Historical Society, the Tybee Theatre Restoration Project and the Tybee Arts Association. She became a prolific artist inspired by the landscape and people of Tybee that she loved so much, that also inspired her love for writing poetry and prose. She enjoyed gathering regularly with her close friends for lunch and dinner clubs.

She and Jerry loved travelling after their retirement. She was especially proud of hiking the Grand Canyon when she was 50 with a 40 pound backpack, spending two nights in the Inner Gorge. She considered this a great achievement considering she was not a particularly athletic person and no doubt she did all of this wearing her perfectly applied signature red lipstick and celebrating her achievement with a glass of red wine.

She was preceded in death by her adored mother & father, her dearest husband Jerry, her sister Frances, her beloved sisters (in-laws, but she considered them her blood): Josephine Dulohery Dye and Lucille Dulohery Behr.

Survivors include her children; Neil Dulohery of San Francisco, Beth Dulohery of North Augusta, SC and Ann Morin (Timmy) of Columbus, GA. She is also survived by her three much loved grand children Hannah Burnsed (Trevor Plymale), Timmy Morin, and Kevin Morin as well as her beloved sister-in-law Clare Dulohery Frew. She also left behind many nieces and nephews that she held dear to her heart. Perhaps the dearest of all, she is survived by her cat Pearl who tended to her with love and affection to the very end.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Michael's Catholic Church 802 Lovell Ave, Tybee Island, GA 31328 at 10 am Saturday, March 1, 2025. Reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Vincent's Academy, Social Apostolate, The Salvation Army or the organization of your choice.
