Margaret Fountain

Margaret Bostic Fountain, 85, of Rockingham, North Carolina, passed away on December 18, 2025. Born on May 31, 1940, in Richmond County, Margaret was a woman of remarkable spirit and dedication. Her career began at Sandhurst Hosiery Mill, but she found her true calling in public service as the Tax Collector for Richmond County. A fixture at the courthouse for many years, she was a beloved public servant who took genuine pride in knowing the members of her community.

Following a brief chapter in Canada beginning in 1992, Margaret returned home to Rockingham.

She eventually joined the Human Resources department at Richmond County Hospital (now First Health), where she cared for her colleagues with the same fierce devotion she gave her family. Known for her vivacious spirit and generosity, Margaret was the life of every party. She especially loved the holidays, filling her home with good cheer and her legendary Christmas Chex Mix. Whether dancing or sharing a laugh, Margaret had a rare gift for lighting up a room. Her family and friends will forever cherish the mountain of memories she leaves behind.

She was preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Lucille and Murray "Pop" DeBerry, and her siblings, Barbara, Thomas, and Daniel.

She leaves behind a loving legacy in her daughters, Cassandra "Sandie" Shoe (James) and Allison Burns. She also remains in the hearts of her grandchildren, William Shoe, Hunter Lawrence, and Kayla McCormick, and her beloved great-granddaughter, Graycelynn Lawrence.

The family will receive friends for visitation Saturday, December 27th, 2025, at Watson-King Funeral Home from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. Funeral services will be held in the chapel at 2:00 pm with Rev. Doug Anderson officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond County Memorial Park Cemetery.
