Margaret “Peggy” Knoll Garner, 89, of Morehead City, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 10, 2025, at Carteret Health Care.
A memorial service to honor Peggy’s life will be held at Open Door Baptist Church, service details will be shared once finalized.
Born on April 30, 1936, in Waterloo, Illinois, Peggy was the beloved daughter of the late Adolph and Elenor Knoll. A beautiful Christian woman, Peggy cherished her faith and was an active member at Open Door Baptist Church.
Peggy was blessed with 69 wonderful years with her sweetheart, James “Jim” Garner. They shared many happy memories together including travelling across country while Jim served in the Air Force. As their family grew with the addition of three children, Peggy embraced her roles as a devoted wife and nurturing mother with warmth and grace. Her pride in her family was a constant source of joy, especially in her cherished roles as a grandmother and great-grandmother.
An artist at heart, Peggy's creativity flourished in her passion for arts and crafts. Her remarkable talent in painting was a testament to her vibrant spirit; it was often joked that Peggy had at least a thousand paint brushes, always ready for new inspiration. Each canvas she created radiated the vibrance of life, mirroring the warmth and kindness she shared with all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Peggy leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and faith that will be remembered by all who knew her.
Those remaining to cherish her memory are her devoted husband, James “Jim” Garner; daughters, Karen Ahern (Sean) and Susan Lupton, all of Morehead City, NC; son, Jeffrey Garner (Merietta) of Smyrna; grandchildren, James Roth (Jasmine), Bradley Lupton (Sharalyn), Alec Garner, and Jonah Garner; and great-grandchildren, Erielle Kathryn Garner and Jonah Erick Garner.
In addition to her parents, Peggy was preceded in death by her sister, Susan Zimmerman.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be made to Open Door Baptist Church, 227 NC-24, Morehead City, NC 28557.
