Margaret Gussie Obituary

Published by Legacy on Apr. 7, 2025.
Margaret B. Gussie, 90, of Girard, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2025, at Whispering Pines Village in Columbiana, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born on August 5, 1934, in California, PA, Margaret was the daughter of Michael and Mary (Kushma) Ballas. She worked for Mahoning Bank's Hubbard Branch for 25 years, retiring in 1989. She was an active member of Saint Patrick Roman Catholic Church and its Altar & Rosary Society, and she also participated in the Hubbard Garden Club.
Margaret had a heart full of love for her family, always cherishing the time spent with them. She was an amazing cook whose meals brought people together, especially during holidays, filling every gathering with warmth and joy. Her love for travel led her to explore many wonderful places, creating countless happy memories along the way. Margaret also had a passion for classic films, often enjoying Turner Classic Movies, which brought her joy and sparked memories. She had a great sense of humor and was a loyal fan of Saturday Night Live, enjoying the fun and nostalgia it brought each week. Sports were another passion of hers; she cheered for Youngstown State, Ohio State, and the Pittsburgh Steelers with unwavering enthusiasm.
Margaret was bold and carried a commanding presence, but her strength was always balanced by her warmth and love. She had an infectious laughter that could light up any room, and she loved deeply.
Margaret was married to her husband, Carl, on October 13, 1956. Sadly, Carl passed away on January 9, 2024. Margaret will be dearly missed by her daughters, Denise (Joseph) Stadalski of Austintown and Danielle (David) Lazor of Liberty Township, as well as her grandchildren, Haldon (Rochelle) Franko, Diandra Lazor, and Daelyn Lazor. She also leaves behind her half-brother, Michael (Donna) Ballas of Morgantown, WV, and half-sister Darlene Koci-Conners of Hopwood, PA.
In addition to her parents and husband, Margaret was preceded in death by her brother, William Ballas.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Whispering Pines Village and Southern Care for their compassionate attention and dedicated care. Their kindness and support brought comfort to Margaret and her loved ones, and the family is extremely grateful.
A private Memorial Mass will be held in Margaret's honor at Saint Patrick Roman Catholic Church, led by The Very Reverend Michael D. Balash.
