Margaret Ann Helms

Margaret Ann Helms, 96, of Abingdon, Virginia, passed away peacefully at NHC Memory Care in Bristol, Va., on Sunday, January 10, 2021. She was born in Russell County, Va., on July 12, 1924, a daughter of the late Walter Taylor and Mary Barrett Taylor.

Margaret was a lifelong member of Pilgrim Baptist Church in Abingdon, Va. She was employed for twenty plus years at Golan Garment Manufacturer as their bookkeeper. However, sewing and painting were her passion. She lived her life with complete love, forgiveness, laughter, and as a woman of Christ. To know her, was to love her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her dear brothers and sisters, Ruth Sword, Robert "Bob" Taylor, and James Harold Taylor.

Margaret is survived by her son, John Steven Helms of Dallas, Ga.; daughter, Nancy Hunt (Walter Britton Hunt) of Merritt Island, Fla.; two grandchildren, Anna Hatfield (Billy Joel Hatfield) of Richmond, Va., and Madison Hunt of Nashville, Tenn.; three great-grandchildren, Henry, Charlie, and Pete Hatfield of Richmond, Va.; and nieces and nephews, Janice Duncan (Doug Duncan), Randy Sword (Sharon Sword), Judy Varnes (Jeff Varnes), Cheryl Harrison, Andy Taylor, John Taylor, and Elizabeth Taylor. She is also survived by several great nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, January 15, 2021, at 11 a.m. Forest Hills Memory Gardens with the Rev. Jerry A. Eggers officiating.

For the safety and health of all those attending the service, we request all CDC guidelines be followed, including the use of face masks.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to your favorite charity.
