Born in Bryn Mawr on November 13, 1937, she was the child of the late Hugh McGinn and Margaret (McGoldrick) McGinn and lived in Ardmore for three years before moving to Worcester Township near Norristown. She Became an accomplished equestrian winning many horse show events including the best child rider at Devon three years in a row, which retired the trophy. Most notably she won the American Horse Show Association Medal Championship at Madison Square Garden in 1954. Margaret continued to compete and excel in horse shows until the late 1960's. On September 17, 1960, she married Robert P. Kelly II and moved to Ambler. They moved to the Lehigh Valley in 1967.
She had 4 children and 10 grandchildren. Margaret's main focus was her family followed by her dogs, gardening, tennis, and golf.
After her competitive days were over her favorite activity was attending horse shows to support her daughter Susan in competition. They did this up and down the east coast for over 40 years.
For the last few decades Margaret and Bob would spend winters in Vero Beach, but when Spring came she was eager to get home to see the flowers bloom and the birds return outside her window. She particularly enjoyed the activities of the hummingbirds.
