Margaret "Meg" McKeithan Lovett
Jan 27, 1951 - Oct 15, 2025
Margaret ("Meg") McKeithan Lovett, of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away on October 15, 2025, surrounded by her family, after a long period of declining health due to Alzheimer's Disease. She was 74 years old.
She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Margaret King McKeithan and Julian Madison McKeithan, of Wilmington, NC. She is survived by her loving husband, John Lovett; daughters, Caton Morris (Charlie) and Mary Madison MacLean (Mike); grandchildren, Walker, Meg and Johnny Morris, and Julian MacLean; sister, Emma Gay Bullard; sisters-in-law, Match Parker and Sarah Muse; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
Meg was born and raised in Wilmington, and carried a deep love and connection to her hometown and Wrightsville Beach throughout her life. She graduated from Hoggard High School in 1969 and had many close friends with whom she remained connected well into adulthood. Meg attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, graduating in 1973 with a degree in education, and was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. She and John first met on a blind date on Valentine's Day in 1970, which was a fateful introduction that led to just over 50 years of marriage and building a family together.
After graduating, Meg worked as a teacher for 10 years. However; her most important roles and joys in her life were being a mother to Caton and Mary Madison; a devoted wife to John; a dear friend to many; and a beloved grandmother to Walker, Meg, Johnny and Julian. True to her sweet and loving disposition, her grandchildren knew her as "Honey."
Meg never met a stranger, and would engage anyone she encountered in a conversation (often lengthy). Things that brought her the most happiness were simple and close to home. She loved family gatherings; laughing and chatting with close friends; going on long walks with her girlfriends; playing couples' golf with John and friends; playing bridge; reading Nicholas Sparks books; putting her feet in the sand and surf; taking care of her plants; relaxing on her patio listening to the birds and enjoying nature; dancing with John to old music; playing with her grand-dogs; and snuggling with her grandchildren. She loved deeply, was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
The Lovett family is forever grateful to the many close friends, family members, nurses and professional care takers, who cared for Meg and supported us all, over the course of her illness.
A service to honor Meg's life will be held Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 3 p.m. at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, 520 Summit St., Winston-Salem, NC. A reception will follow the service from 4 to 6 p.m. at Forsyth Country Club.
