Margaret E (Przywarty) Pauly, a career professional administrator within the Defense Intelligence Agency from 1964 to 1997, died peacefully at home on October 29, 2025 of natural causes at the age of 90. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Donald Pauly as they were married for 41 years.
Marge was born April 14, 1935, in Glassport PA, the daughter of Frank Przywarty and Catherine (Paulin) Przywarty. She attended local schools and a nearby college. She then worked in the offices of a local bank until leaving the area to begin secretarial work for the Federal Government at Fort Holabird in Maryland. She later held positions in the Army Attache Service which took her to overseas locations in Hong Kong for three years, and then behind the "Iron Curtain" in Budapest, Hungary for another three years.
In 1964 the Army Attache Service became part of the newly formed Defense Intelligence Agency, and Marge continued in administrative work at offices in Rosslyn VA until a promotion brought her to the Pentagon headquarters of DIA as chief of their Executive Services Office. There she received many awards for outstanding performance, as well as several more promotions into the executive service category. She was an accomplished and well-respected administrator and worked with and for many DIA leaders. On December 30,1997, Marge retired from government service, intending to begin a more relaxed lifestyle.
But her reputation and experience brought job offers she initially refused, until persistence by Computer Science Corporation executives enticed her to accept a new challenge in helping them improve performance on a critical contract. After a year and a half in this new environment, Marge retired again, this time for health reasons. She underwent surgery for thyroid cancer and had a long recuperation which included radiation therapy. Her recovery was successful, and in 1999 she began to finally enjoy retirement.
Moving from Silver Spring, MD to
Leesburg, VA in 2000, she began volunteer work at The Resourceful Woman Thrift Shop which supports the local Abused Women's Shelter. She continued this work until 2022. She was also a very active volunteer at St John the Apostle Catholic Church. Health issues arose in January 2022 which resulted in sudden blackouts with severe injuries from resulting falls, and the diagnosis of Parkinson's Disease, for which there is still no cure. She is remembered as being a kind and very generous person, a gourmet cook, a tremendous friend, and having a sharp wit and keen sense of humor.
Marge is survived by her stepson Stephen Pauly (Kris) of St Johns, FL and stepson Todd Pauly (Cindy) of
Leesburg, VA and by six step grandchildren, Lauren, Jay, Elizabeth, Jake, Ben and Mary, along with two great grandchildren, Claire and Clayton. She is also survived by her niece, Jodi Shoemaker of Pittsburgh, Pa, along with other nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by prior husband William Norris, and by her siblings Carl, Lawrence, Edward, Leonard, Mary Catherine, Francis and Rosemarie.
