Margaret Ella Raburn, lovingly known as "Maggie" by her dearest high school and college friends, passed away peacefully on June 1, 2025, just 8 days shy of her birthday. She was 81 years old.
Born in Abilene, Texas, on June 9, 1943, to James Robert Swope and Ella Lavada Kincaid, Margaret spent her youth growing up in Fort Worth, Texas. Summers at her uncle's sheep ranch instilled in her a lifelong love for animals, land, and self-reliance. It was there she became an excellent marksman and learned many of the skills that would serve her-and others-throughout her life.
Margaret attended Texas Woman's College in Denton, where she met the love of her life, Dr. Randall Kent Raburn, a student at the University of North Texas. Together for 58 years, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and devotion. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her son Kent Christopher Raburn, and her baby girl, Dana Margaret Raburn.
She is survived by her daughter, Cheryl Robin Raburn Clark; her granddaughters, Dr. Brynn Erin Caddell (Frankie Leon Caddell III), Meghan Leighann Richardson, and Jennifer Lisa Martinez (Juan Martinez); and her nine great-grandchildren, who carry on her legacy of grace, grit, and generosity.
Margaret was a woman of many talents. She was a gifted educator who poured her heart into her students, inspiring countless young minds to reach their fullest potential. She was a master seamstress-voted "Best Dressed" her senior year of high school, wearing only clothes she made herself. She was also a sharp mathematician, creative homemaker, savvy stock-trader, talented artist, and impeccable event planner. In the Raburn household, nothing was ever wasted; growing up through the Great Depression, she knew how precious resources were and carried that with her entire life. Margaret ensured that her family was always cared for with elegance, strength, and enduring love.
Above all, Margaret's greatest devotion was to her faith. Her relationship with Jesus Christ was the foundation of her life. No matter the hardships she faced-and there were many-her faith only deepened. She gave thanks in all things and shared the love of Christ with everyone who crossed her path. She lived to serve the Lord and made sure her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren knew the joy of walking with Him.
Margaret Ella Raburn was a pillar of strength, a wellspring of wisdom, and a radiant example of God's grace. Her impact will be felt for generations, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
