Obituary published on Legacy.com by Davis Memorial Chapel on Dec. 15, 2025.
Margaret Smith (Lord), 90, passed away December 15, 2025, at the Gill Odd Fellows Home after a long and courageous battle with Dementia.

Born on April 28, 1935, in Woodstock, VT, she was the 5th of 7 children born to Ernest and Bertha Mae Lord (Hawley).

Her marriage to Robert Edward Smith in 1951 moved her to Perkinsville, Vermont, where she lived and raised a family. She was a dedicated and loving wife and an at home mother to her children. She loved to maintain a vegetable garden, producing many hundreds of canned produce for the winter months. She also was an excellent baker of home comfort foods, pies and pastries.

To Margaret, family was everything, with a loving husband, four sons and their families, she was always loving and very generous, especially at Christmas, which she loved very much.

She was an at home Seamstress taking in many local clothing repair orders for many years. She also had a home cleaning service for many homes in Weathersfield and Springfield Vermont areas. She had a meticulous reputation for doing excellent cleaning and had a continuous cleaning schedule.

Margaret Smith was the Easter Seals Chairman for Windsor and South Windsor in 1973 and held this position for several years.

She never met anyone she couldn't carry on a conversation with. She was full of life experience, wisdom and love which she generously shared and received. To her sons, she was very disciplinary to teach them the importance of family respect and love.

She is survived by her brother Earl, son Stephen (Valerie), 1 grandson and 2 great grandchildren; son Sidney, 5 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren; son Loren (Cindy), 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; son Craig (Samantha), 3 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. There are also numerous nieces and nephews from her siblings.
