Margaret Timberlake Obituary

Margaret Burrus Timberlake

Born: October 22, 1930 | Died: October 4, 2025

Margaret Elizabeth McCormick Burrus Timberlake passed away peacefully at the Silas Creek Rehabilitation Center in Winston-Salem on Saturday, October 4th, after a short illness.

She was born on October 22nd, 1930 in the Rockford community of Surry County, where she also grew up, met, and married our father, James Richard "Dick" Burrus. They soon moved to Pilot Mountain, where our mom was a 39-year legal secretary for numerous lawyers there. She also was a member and one-time president of the Pilot Mountain Women's Club, and a member of the First Baptist Church of Pilot Mountain. After our dad died, she moved to Winston-Salem, where she met her wonderful second husband, Robert "Bob" Timberlake, whom she married in 1993. She and Bob attended church and lived there until his death in 2014, and she continued to live there until her own death.

She was preceded in death by her father, James Ruben "Rube" McCormick, her mother, Mae Winfrey McCormick, and her sister, Jean McCormick Mauldin.

She is survived by two sons, Richard "Rick" Burrus and his wife, Renee, of Raleigh; James "Jim" Burrus, his wife, Heather, and two grandchildren, Phoebe and Matthew Burrus, of Clemmons. She is also survived by three step-grandchildren and their wives: Christopher & Arielle Schrupp of Lindale, TX; Brandon & Lincy Schrupp of Lincoln, NE; and Alex & Katie Schrupp of Phoenix, AZ; and by one step-great grandchild, Ethan.

Services were handled by Cox-Needham Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at Historic Rockford Methodist Church in Rockford, NC, with interment in the Rockford Baptist Church cemetery, conducted by Rev. Karl Minor.
