November 30, 2025
Dearest Michael, Peter, Jessie & family. We are thinking of all of you & we send comfort, friendship & love your way. Peggy was a remarkable woman & so devoted to all of you, ideas, nature & more. The memorial gathering you planned for her was very moving & it was an honor to be there to share that experience with all of you. We were pleased to support a tree in her honor through this site. May her memory be a blessing always, & Michael, please let us know when life brings you to Tucson. You take care & here is to seeing you in Tucson & Wisconsin as well. Peace to you, Roberta & Lester

Twenty-five years ago, Peggy Vergeront helped found a book club that is still going strong, thanks in large part to her quiet, brilliant, and steady influence. In commemoration of Peggy´s deep love of literature, reading, and the outdoors, the book club established a gift in her name to the Madison Public Library Foundation. (mplfoundation.org.) Initiated by book club member and Peggy's long-time friend, Renie Schapiro, our donation supports the new Imagination Center now under construction. It will be the first Madison library built within a park. A plaque saying "In memory of Peggy Vergeront" will appear on the wall of donors at the new site.

My deepest condolences, a wonderful mother, wife, and friend. I will think of our early morning phone calls to make sure Peter was picking me up on time for school, fondly.

I met Peggy when she worked at Legal Action. I was a newly graduated lawyer, starting to get into work on behalf of tenants' rights. She was generous and helped me many times by answering questions and letting me bounce questions and ideas of her. She helped me get a start on what turned into a decades long career. I've always appreciated that help. Thanks Peggy.

Many fond memories of Peggy had their beginning in Wisconsin in 1965 and continued in Italy and Massachusetts. She had a profound and yet lighthearted impact on her many friends over the years. I was fortunate to be among them. She is celebrated and missed by me among many.
