Margaret Daphne Whitley Harris passed away on Tuesday, October 14, 2025. Known as Daphne, she was born in Suffolk, VA on November 28, 1948 to William Wesley and Mary Louise Whitley. She was raised in Isle of Wight County. Daphne was a lifelong member of Woodland United Methodist Church. She attended John Yeates High School before studying at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and later studied Intensive Care nursing at the University of Virginia.
Daphne had a deep love of horses starting from a young age. She shared her love of horses with her children for many years. Daphne bred and raised black Arabians, managed her horse farm and even hosted the famous Lipizzaner stallions.
Daphne worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse for over fifty years. Most of her career was spent helping patients at Obici Hospital. She worked in critical care, cardiac care and, in her later years, in senior and pediatric care. She was very proud of all she accomplished throughout her career and the countless lives she touched. Daphne strived to be the best nurse possible. She continued to learn and stay current with new medical procedures and advancements throughout her career.
In addition to her parents, Daphne was preceded in death by her son William Dennis Clements, her daughter Jacklyn Denise Clements and by an infant daughter Harris.
Daphne expressed her love for her family often. Daphne is survived by her sister Jacklyn Whitley Meeker of Suffolk, and her four children. Daughter Lisa Dawn Harris of Charlottesville and her daughters Ember Louise Jenison and Lindsay Skye Jenison, son Thomas Jonathan Harris of Arvonia and his daughter Kelsey Shane Call, daughter Melissa Jo Harris of Dillwyn and her sons William Wesley Craft and Henry Wyatt Craft, and daughter April Susanne Campbell and husband Joshua David Campbell of Annapolis Maryland and sons Trent Thomas Hines, Christian James Hines, daughter Katherine McKenna Campbell and stepchildren Natalie Campbell, Michaela Campbell and Alistar Campbell.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, November 24, 2025 at 2 PM at Woodland United Methodist Church, 20051 Orbit Road, Windsor, VA 23487; with Rev. Reason Chandler and Rev. Robert F. Cofield, Jr. officiating. Visitation with family and friends will take place following the service in the fellowship hall.
