Margaret Catherine Woltjer, 91 of
Marshalltown, IA, passed away on March 20, 2025, at The Willows of Marshalltown. Margaret was born on January 4, 1934, to James and Margaret (Rafferty) Kennedy in Carroll, IA.
She started her education at country school Willows Number 4, in Coon Rapids, IA. After graduating valedictorian from Bayard High School Class of 1952, Margaret continued her education at Buena Vista University, where she obtained a bachelor's degree in education. Margaret started her teaching career in 1954 and spent her time dedicated to molding young minds at Panora, Hampton, St. Mary's of Marshalltown, and West Marshall Schools retiring in 1995
.
On August 7, 1958, Margaret and Harold Woltjer were joined in marriage at Bayard, IA. Margaret and Harold were married for 66 years, where they were blessed with their two children, Mike and Peri.
Margaret was a member of many associations, including Marshalltown Area Community Hospital Auxiliary, American Legion Ladies Golf Association, National Education Association, and the American Legion Auxiliary where she was very active for many years, frequently holding the office of secretary.
She loved spending her time golfing, shopping, doing crossword puzzles, reading, tending her flowers, decorating her home, and doing arts and crafts projects with her grandchildren. She was their biggest cheerleader attending all of their varied activities throughout the years.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, James and Margaret Kennedy, her brother, James Kennedy, her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Henry and Leona Woltjer.
She is survived by her husband, Harold, children: Mike (Cherryl) Woltjer of
Marshalltown, IA and Peri Woltjer of Des Moines, IA. She is also survived by three grandchildren: Andrew (Amelia) Woltjer of
Marshalltown, IA, Kathryn (David) Peiffer of Ankney, IA, and Erin (Ryan) Jensen of West Des Moines, IA, two great grandchildren, Natalie and Callan with a great grandson on the way, and several nieces as well.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at 10:00 A.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Service will be held the same day following visitation at 11:30 A.M. at Mitchell Family Funeral Home. Interment following the service at Riverside Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to return to Mitchell Family Funeral Home for a luncheon.
