With great sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Margareta Karau, who peacefully left us on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at the age of 84. She was surrounded by her family. Margareta was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She dedicated her life to caring for her family and was a pillar of strength to all who knew her. She had a passion for cooking, knitting and spending time with her family. Her generosity and warm spirit touched the lives of many.
She is survived by her children: Ulrike (Peter) Dunbar, Brigitte (Darrick) Hodo and Peter Marek, grandchildren: Alexandra, Marcus, Jason and Aubrey, and great grandchildren: Lillian, Emeric, Braden and Bentley. She was preceded in death by her late husband: Erava William Karau Jr.
Mom, your love and guidance will remain in our hearts forever.
A wife, a mother, a grandmother too, this is the legacy we have from you. You taught us love, and how to fight, you gave us strength, you gave us might. A stronger person would be hard to find, and in your heart, you were always kind. You fought for us all in one way or another, not just as a wife, not just as a mother. For all of us, you have your best, now the time has come for you to rest. So go in peace, you’ve earned your sleep. Your love in our hearts, we’ll eternally keep.
A celebration of life for Margareta will be held at a later date.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Courtney and Nicki, the Compassus hospice nurses that were so loving, kind, dedicated and supportive.
