Margery E. Miles
Concord, NH — Margery E. Miles died on April 8, 2021 in Concord, NH, one month in advance of her 82nd birthday.
Margery was born on May 8, 1939 the only child of the late Elbridge and Della Austin Miles, and grew up on a small farm on Loverin Hill in Croydon, NH. She attended the little red brick schoolhouse in the East Village through 8th grade and attended Towle High School in Newport, graduating in 1957.
After one year of commercial studies at Pierce College in Concord, she began work at Phoenix Insurance Co. on Pleasant Street and was known as the "Voice of Phoenix" for her pleasant manner of answering the phone. She retired in 2007 after 48 years with the company.
Throughout her life Margery visited with special friends in Croydon and Newport and attended many local events such as the dedication of the Pat Sawyer Park in Croydon and the town's 250th celebration. She also did some travelling with friends, including Washington, DC, Disneyworld, and Lake George, NY. She especially enjoyed a bus ride to a concert in Lowell, MA featuring her favorite country singer, Loretta Lynn, and having her name announced honoring her birthday.
After retirement, being settled in her apartment home on Federal Street, she stayed on in Concord and until very recently she enjoyed walking and shopping uptown, downtown, and out to the mall, the library, and main street events.
There will be a brief graveside service at 2pm on Sunday April 18, 2021 at Pine Grove Cemetery in Newport, NH, but due to the continuing Covid-19 situation there will be no insider gathering at this time. Newton-Bartlett Funeral Home of Newport, NH is in charge of arrangements.
Hopefully, a "We Remember Margie" memorial will happen later this summer when it seems safe for people to gather again. If you are interested in attending such an event, please provide your contact information to Newton-Bartlett, telephone: 863-2113 and you will receive notice of a date and time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Croydon Historical Society, 879 NH Rt. 10, Croydon, NH 03773.
To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

Oh Margie, you will be missed. I think about you when I drive down the Concord streets you walked and EVERY time I answer a work phone. You were part of our Phenix Phamily and we loved you. I'm so glad you had had so many good (hopefully) years as a retiree--you deserved them. God speed Margie

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief, and find comfort from knowing that God draws close to the broken-hearted.

I worked with Margie at Phenix Mutual in 1986-1988 and again in 1990-1992 and one more time in 2005 until she retired. She was my favorite receptionist and it seemed I could always make her laugh. She loved receiving pictures of my son at Christmas time and watching him grow. She truly was the voice of Phenix and will be dearly missed.
