Margorie (Marge) Ann Golen, 91, of Cloquet, passed away peacefully July 9, 2025 embraced by the love and comfort of her family. Born in Cloquet on February 20, 1934, to Robert and Bertha Elmer, she went on to marry David and they remained united for 73 years.
Marge grew up at Big Lake, helping with farm chores and spending time at the lake. She hated her long, thick, braided hair as a teen and talked her dad into cutting it short, much to her mom's displeasure. She was a lifelong athlete who enjoyed volleyball, golf, trap shooting, skiing, jogging and bowling.
Marge was a great left-handed golfer who won many local golf tournaments throughout her life. She made an incredible 3 hole-in-ones while living in Louisiana. Besides golfing, she enjoyed shopping and hiding her purchases from her husband, gardening, reading, playing cards, out fishing Dave and spending time with family and friends. She was a kind, generous person who enjoyed baking, (her specialty, "Grandma Bersie Bars") and gifting these goodies to friends and family.
Marge worked as a Dispatcher for Energy Incorporated and TRICO in Cloquet for 15 years. She was so shy that the owner of Energy Inc. had to come pick her up on her first day. She also worked as a Traffic Coordinator in Lake Charles, LA, where she lived for 18 years, learning to love crawdads and Cajun cuisine - but never spiders. She and Dave retired in 1993 and returned to Big Lake.
Marge was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, James, Father Phillip, and Donald Elmer; sister, Delores (Liz) Westerham; and grandson, Anthony Johnson. She is survived by her husband and seven children, Adrianne (Tom) Luke, Dyke (Mary) Golen, Donald Golen, Janice (Doug) Wilson, Mary Golen, Robert (Kathy Kaspszak) Golen, and Margy (Craig) Harp, along with beloved grandchildren, Raynelle, Brooke, Bryce, Kalee, Justine, Jacob, and Isaac, plus her great grandchildren.
Marge endured many serious health issues with the love and support of her family. Even after all her setbacks, she continued to live at home due to the special loving care provided by her husband and daughter, Mary. The family wishes to thank all the wonderful friends and caregivers, who throughout her life and illnesses, filled Marge's life with comfort, love, laughter and friendship. A special thank you to Dr. Anne Silva-Benedict who fought with her through each cancer; to Joe and Renee of CenterWell Home Health who always got her back on her feet; and to the wonderful people in the CMH Med Surge unit who lovingly cared for her until her passing. The family will forever be grateful for the love, kindness and support of our special family - Penney and Del Prevost.
A private family ceremony honoring Marge's life is being held, at her request.
