Margory McDaid Spiegle, 86, of Philadelphia PA, passed away peacefully on February 20th, 2025, at Jefferson Torresdale Hospital with her family by her side.
Margory was born December 14, 1938 in Philadelphia and grew up in Chestnut Hill, the eldest child of Irish immigrants Hugh and Margaret McDaid (neé Sweeney). Margory cherished her Irish heritage and her parents' pursuit of the American Dream, and often spoke proudly of the work ethic they instilled in her.
She was a graduate of Little Flower High School, after which she went on to a rewarding career at Bell Telephone, where she made friendships that lasted well into her later years.
Margory married Joseph J. Spiegle on October 20, 1962, and settled together in Mayfair to raise their family - daughters Margory and Karen, and son Joey. They were devoted and involved parents who volunteered to support their children's sports and school activities early and often. Following her husband Joseph's untimely passing in 1978, Margory returned to work as an administrative assistant at PGW to support the family as a single mother, and forged the persistent spirit that became her trademark.
She battled numerous challenges later in life with courage and resolve, determined to not only endure, but thrive, while helping others in the process.
After the loss of her daughter Karen Spiegle VMD, she was a devoted volunteer with the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition. Later, after the passing of her son Joey, she became involved with The Compassionate Friends to support other parents grieving the loss of a child. And on top of it all, she defied the odds to beat lung cancer.
Gifted with an uncanny memory, she was a devotee of history and learning, and later returned to school to pursue Liberal Arts courses at Philadelphia Community College while continuing her professional career at Karr Barth.
Margory was fiercely driven and meticulous in all she did, especially when it came to loving her grandchildren; Matthew Bremme, Conor Scharr, and Patrick Scharr. She would light up any time she had the chance to boast about them.
Remaining to cherish Margory's memory are her daughter, Margory Spiegle Scharr (Peter); grandchildren, Matthew (Megan), Conor (Maddie), and Patrick (Caroline); great-granddaughter, Winter Rose; brother Daniel McDaid (Dennie), sister Grace McDaid; nieces and nephews Daniel McDaid Jr. (Juna Kim), Moira McDaid, Adam McDaid (Christine Fountain), and Alicia McDaid; and three great-nephews, Quinn, Troy, and Ian.
Relatives and friends are invited to Margory's Visitation on Wednesday February 26th from 10am to 11am at Mannal Funeral Home, 6925 Frankford Ave., with interment service to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers contributions in Margory's name may be made to.
