Marguerite (Maggie) Ann (Foos) Hempel was born Jan 5, 1931, to Joseph & Annie Foos in Rochester, NY. She passed away on March 7, 2024 in her home in Eldridge, MO at the age of 93 years.
She was married to Thomas Joseph Hempel on January 10, 1953.
They raised 10 children and dairy farmed until 1979 when they sold their farm in New York state. They moved to Eldridge, Missouri and raised beef cattle on a farm on the Niangua River. Seven of their children accompanied them to MO.
Maggie was a 4H leader in New York when her children were young. After moving to MO Maggie and Tom homeschooled their youngest 3 children. Life was an adventure as the family transitioned to Ozark living on an 800-acre cattle ranch and farm. Maggie enjoyed walking around the farm and going to the river. In later years she drove around on her golf cart, enjoying the outdoors. Maggie was a volunteer at the Lebanon Pregnancy Support Center for many years. She also was involved with the Eldridge Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. Maggie was a terrific cook and enjoyed making meals for her family. She loved all her visitors and touched many lives.
She is survived by her children Jacinta (Sam) Colombo, Tully, NY; Matthew Hempel, Eldridge, MO; Christopher (Cyndie) Hempel, Austin, TX; Catherine (Randy) Applebee, Port Byron, NY; Annette (Daniel) Leppert, Dickey, ND; Clatus (Dorothy) Hempel, Lebanon, MO; Mary (Randall) Howard, Fordland, MO; Albert Hempel, Eldridge, MO; and Herman (Elizabeth) Hempel, Lebanon, MO; 28 grandchildren, and 27 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas, son Daniel, and granddaughter Sarah.
Visitation will be from 3:00 – 6:00pm on Friday, March 8, 2024, at the Hempel farm, located at 1349 Hempel Rd., Eldridge, MO.
Burial on Saturday, March 9, on the Hempel farm at the family cemetery at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lebanon Pregnancy Support Center or Eldridge Volunteer Fire Department.
