Marguerite “Marge” (Schmidt) Massart, 81, Green Bay, WI, passed away peacefully, November 30, 2023. She was born February 25, 1942, in Sturgeon Bay, WI to Ottmar & Marion (Pfeifer) Schmidt. Marge was born number 6 of 13 children and raised on the family farm. She graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School. She married Mark Massart on October 27, 1962, and the two moved to Green Bay to start their life together. Marge’s life was lived daily, with Faith, Family and Friends. She was very proud of raising her children, dedicated to continuing her education later in life receiving her degree in Social Work from the University of WI, Green Bay. She then went on to work at Unity Hospice until she retired in 2007. Marge enjoyed spending time with her family especially walks in the woods, lunch with her friends, watching her grandson’s hockey games and the Green Bay Packers. She had a passion for quilting and made many quilts that she donated to patients at Green Bay Oncology Clinic, different raffles, families & friends. She also loved making her famous Christmas cookies that she shared with others, as well she also enjoyed gardening and reading.
Marge is survived by her husband of 61 years Mark Massart; her children and spouses, Pat (Sue) Massart, Lisa (Chris) Knutson, John (Stephanie) Massart; her grandchildren, Ashley Massart (Jamie Kember), Elyse Massart (Rob Boyce), Emily Merriman (Clint Doxtator), Ben Knutson; and her great-grandchildren, Mady Massart, Connor & Hadley Merriman. She is further survived by her siblings and their spouses, Jean Olsen, TX, William Schmidt, MN, Robert (Dianne) Schmidt, WI, James (Helen) Schmidt, FL, Joanne McCarty, WI, Mary (Ronald) Wallenfang, WI, Eileen (Richard) Grenke, WI, Lynn (Nancy) Schmidt, WI, Joesph (Mary) Schmidt, WI, and Paula (Charles) Lund, WI; brothers-in-law & sisters-in-law, Ruth Simon, WI, Charles (Marilyn) Massart, WI, Doris Massart, WI, Magdalen Havel, WI, Kathleen (Donald) Leurquin, WI; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Ottmar Jr. Schmidt, John Patrick (Pat) Schmidt; and sister-in-law, Kathryn (Kellner) Schmidt, Jennie (Massart) & Bill Merline; parents-in-law, Charles & Emily (Naze) Massart; brothers-in-law, Neil McCarty, Cletus Simon, Cletus Havel, Regina Schmidt, and Joseph Massart; nephews, John Schmidt, Joey Massart; and niece, Nancy Massart.
Friends may call St. Jude Catholic Church, 1420 Division Street, Green Bay, WI. There will be visitation from 9:00-11:00 am on Wednesday, December 6, 2023. The Mass of Resurrection will follow at 11:00 am with Father Tim Shillcox O. Praem officiating. Kinnard Funeral Home is assisting the family. To send online condolences, please go to KinnardFCS.com.
