Marguerite Patnode McAuliffe, age 89, previously of Johnstown, NY, passed away on October 29, 2025, to be with her husband, James G. McAuliffe, Sr.
Her final place of residence was Sundara Senior Living in Round Rock, Texas.
Marguerite was born on March 17, 1936, in Ellenburg, NY, to the late Samuel and Jeanette Patnode.
She graduated from the Champlain Valley Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse, diabetic educator, and school nurse at Wells Central School, as well as a traveling hospice nurse in Upstate New York. Her most cherished role was being a loving and fabulous mother to her and Jim's four children.
Marguerite lived her entire life with a deep devotion to her Catholic Faith and with exceptional loving care for her family, her hospice patients, and her Wells Central School students, as well as all her friends. She was a positive influence on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her, and her memory will live on in all of us who have been fortunate enough to be touched by her love and care.
Marguerite is survived by her cherished family, which includes her son, John P. McAuliffe, and his wife, Margie; her daughter, Kathleen M. Kelly, and husband, Brian; her son, James G. McAuliffe Jr., and wife, Maureen; and her son, Patrick K. McAuliffe, and his wife, Michele. Her eleven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren are her continuing legacy.
She was passionate about sharing her gardening, bird-loving, and outdoor activities with all her family. Marguerite had an intense prayer to find a cure for diabetes.
Marguerite had been an active member of Holy Trinity Parish in Johnstown, NY; St. Ann Catholic Church in Wells, NY; Sacred Heart Church in Cicero, NY; and St. Patrick Catholic Church in Hutto, TX.
Calling hours for family and friends will be on Thursday, November 6, 2025, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Barter & Donnan Funeral Home, 1 North Melcher St, Johnstown, NY.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 7, 2025, at 10:00 AM, at Holy Trinity Church, 205 Glebe Street, Johnstown, NY.
Interment will immediately follow the Mass at St Patrick's Cemetery, Johnstown.
