Marguerite Leonard Wade, affectionately known as Granny, completed her earthly journey on October 24, 2025, in Chicago, IL, wrapping up a life marked by love, faith, and resilience. Born on July 14, 1923, in Union City, TN, to the late Lucille Swift and Ruben Fingers, Marguerite was a beacon of light in the lives of all who knew her.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Neamorsie Wade Sr., her son, Neamorsie Wade Jr., her brothers, Charles-Amos and Gene, and sisters, Lois Burrus and Lettie Davis. Her legacy lives on through her sister, Joanne Simpson of Mayfield, Kentucky, daughter-in-law, Norma Wade of Chicago, IL, and her cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marguerite will also be missed, and lovingly cherished by a host of other family, friends, and associates.
Marguerite's professional life was filled with dedication and service, as she worked at Rembrandt Lamp Company before retiring from Weiss Memorial Hospital in 1984. Her commitment was not just to her work, but also to her faith as a devout Christian. She displayed this faith through her actions, her words, and the love she extended to those around her.
Marguerite's passion for her family knew no bounds. She poured her heart into raising her granddaughters, Natonia Allen (Glenn) of Bellwood, IL, Nicole Moore (Anthony), and Nina Wade (Frank) of Chicago, IL, and rejoiced in the growth of her great-grandchildren, Taraun Mitchell, John Wade Allen, Neshaun Polk-Bey, Jordyn Allen, Natalee Wade, Shannon Moore, Natonia-Nicole Wade, Nakaia Edwards, Anthony Moore III, and Daphne Tyler. The newest joy in her life was her great-great-grandchild, Apollo Antonio Mitchell, who brought tremendous happiness to her later years.
Marguerite's vivacious spirit shined bright when she engaged in her favorite pastimes: playing Bingo and cards, delving into word search puzzles, and completing crossword puzzles. Her lucky streak was legendary among family and friends, as she often found success playing the Illinois lottery.
Those who knew Marguerite would describe her as kind, faith-filled, and courageous. She exemplified the Christian virtues of love and charity, always extending a helping hand and a warm smile to those in need. It was her unwavering faith that gave her the strength to face life's challenges with grace and dignity.
As we remember Marguerite, we are reminded of the words of the Apostle Paul: "And now these three remain: faith, hope, and love. But the greatest of these is love." (1 Corinthians 13:13). Margaret's life was a testament to this scripture, as she lived every day with immense faith, hope in her heart, and unconditional love for her family and friends.
Marguerite Leonard Wade's story is not one of an ending but a celebration of a life well-lived, a soul that touched countless others, and a spirit that will continue to inspire those she has left behind. Her memory will be a blessing to all who had the privilege to know her, and her influence will endure through the generations she so lovingly nurtured.
