Mari Dodwell Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mealey Funeral Home - Broom St. on Apr. 30, 2025.
Mari Elizabeth Dodwell, 78, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2025, in Hockessin, Delaware.
Born on March 5, 1947, in Louisiana, Missouri, Mari was the daughter of Marjorie and John Shipley Hobbs. She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School and later pursued business classes at Goldey Beacom College, laying the foundation for a life marked by determination and resilience.
Mari shared many cherished years with her beloved husband, Keith Dodwell, with whom she enjoyed sailing adventures and countless days on the Chesapeake. Their bond was one of deep companionship and shared joy until his passing.
A woman of vibrant spirit and unwavering strength, Mari was known for her loving nature and strong will. She had a passion for cooking and delighted in hosting hors d'oeuvres parties with her neighbors-gatherings that reflected her warmth and love for community. Her love of literature found an outlet in her book club, where she enjoyed thoughtful discussions and lasting friendships. Mari also found joy in attending the theater and traveling to new places. She loved and enjoyed her time with her dogs Duffy and Connor. She was very competitive when it came to playing games including watching Jeopardy daily, where she was always the first to call out the answer.
Family was central to Mari's life. She treasured time spent with loved ones and embraced her role as an aunt with unmatched devotion. She is remembered fondly by those who knew her as an amazing and loving aunt whose presence brought comfort and joy.
Mari is survived by her brothers Alan Hobbs (wife Thea Amato) and Richard Hobbs (wife Sandy Hobbs); nieces Nikki Hobbs and Brittany Hobbs (fiance James Haburack); great-nephews Carter Haburack and Landon Haburack; sister-in-law Michelle Hobbs (husband Michael Frick); nephew Ken Noble (Nolene Noble); along with extended family members who held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her husband Keith Dodwell; her parents Marjorie and John Shipley Hobbs; and her brother John Hobbs.
Mari's legacy lives on through the memories she created with family and friends-through laughter shared over meals, stories exchanged at book club meetings, sails across open waters, and quiet moments spent reading on the beach.
We will be celebrating her life by dispersing her and Keith's ashes at a later date.
May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her.
