Maria Bruno Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cooper Chapel on Feb. 26, 2026.
Beloved Mother of Catherine Bruno Simpson and Salvatore Bruno and mother-in-law of Michael Simpson answered the calling of the Lord. She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Joseph Bruno and her sisters, Lucia and Annunziata of Italy. She is survived by her brothers Vincenzo and Pietro, all of Sicily, Italy and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in both America and Italy. She was born to Marianna Siino and Francesco Lombardo in Isola Delle Femmine, Sicily. Maria married Joseph in 1955 in Isola Delle Famine where they both grew up. She joined her husband in Pittsburg, California in 1957 where she lived for 45 years. In 2002, the family moved to Concord to be closer to her daughter. Maria was a beautiful soul, and a loving, devoted Mother. She worked at the canneries in Antioch from 1960 – 1965. She was a devout parishioner of Saint Peter Martyr Church, then Church of the Good Shepherd and ultimately, Saint Bonaventure Church in Concord. She was an excellent cook and showed her love to her family and friends through food-making homemade, bread, pizza, cannoli, Italian cookies and Broccolini and many other Sicilian delights. She loved to laugh and cherished gathering with friend and family to share a meal and sing Italian songs. From mid-2020 until now, Maria was lovingly cared for at An Oak Grove Manor in Walnut Creek. The family thanks the owner and staff for their excellent care. Maria became especially close to her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Antonietta and Peter Bruno and her cousins Josephine and Mary Aiello. The Lord works with divine timing. Jo and Mary passed shortly before and after Joseph passed. Maria's best friend and sister-in-law, Antonietta passed just 4 days after Maria. They will be laid to rest next to their husbands and next to each other. We mourn the passing of these wonderful women. They will never be forgotten and remain in our hearts forever. Friends and family are invited to a funeral liturgy at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 21 at Queen of Heaven Cemetery Chapel, 1965 Relies Valley Road, Lafayette, CA. A luncheon in her honor will be held on the premises. In lieu of flowers the family request donations to your favorite charity.
