Maria Ilona (Mozsonitz) Locklear was 74 years young when she lost her battle to cancer and passed peacefully surrounded by her husband, children, and her oldest granddaughters, on January 18, 2023 at her home in Tobermory, NC. She loved the Lord and was ready to go, even if we were not. Just Friday she commented that "Jesus is on the foot of the bed waiting on me."
The relationships Maria leaves behind in those who knew her is that of genuine love and affection. She was never without an answer, or just the exact words to say in any situation. Her moral compass never faltered in any way and was always grounded by her faith. Maria often times would cook, bake and volunteer countless hours to the ladies' ministry and feeding those who were unable to provide for themselves in and around the community. She never met a stranger and since her death, we have been fortunate enough to hear from hundreds of individuals whose life she's impacted and shared the love of her faith, wisdom, and food with.
Maria was born on April 29,1948, in Augsburg, Germany. She met the love of her life, David Locklear, near Mannheim, Germany where he served in the Army. They shared a love that spanned the globe for well over half a century. Together they had three loving children: Thorsten Schifferdecker (Tanja) of Nuremberg, Germany; Melanie Locklear (Michael) of Wade, NC; Robert Locklear (Julianne), of Rostock, Germany. They have eight grandchildren: Neele, and Noah Schifferdecker of Nuremberg, Germany; Jaclyn (Damen) Juckett, of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO; Alisha Flowers, of Tacoma, WA: Natalie Sanders of Wasilla, AK; Sophia, Ayden, and Sarah Locklear of Rostock, Germany; and one great granddaughter Taliya Juckett of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. Maria was known by many names, but cherish being called Oma above all. She also leaves behind countless in-laws, nieces, and nephews who loved her dearly and will miss their "Aunt A-lona"
Maria was preceded in death by her parents Johann and Elisabeth Mozsonitz and her youngest brother Fritz Mozsonitz, of Schwabmünchen, Germany.
As a family we'd like to take this time to thank you for the calls and visits. In lieu of flowers, we'd be honored if you'd share a kind word or deed to a stranger in honor of the life of our beloved Oma. Her legacy will continue by simple acts of love she always did, silently. A lesson we could all learn to do more of.
The family had a private service and everyone is welcome to visit the family home in the coming days.
