Maria Louise Masterson (nee Mattei)
Born in Joliet, IL on October 5, 1946, at rest on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing into eternal life of Maria L. (Mattei) Masterson. She passed peacefully with the love and prayers of her family by her side. Fr. John Merkelis O.S.A. of Providence Catholic High School administered Last Rites. Graduated from St. Mary Carmelite, and Saint Francis Academy. She was a dedicated secretary for many years for the EJ&E Railway and was a legal secretary for local attorneys. She valued Catholic Education and was very proud that both of her children attended and graduated from St. John the Baptist Grade School, Providence Catholic High School and De Paul University. She will be remembered for her unique approach to life, being unapologetically herself, her loud laugh, and her ability to find treasures everywhere. Some of her favorite things include food, all things Italian, Easy Talk with her sister, and theatre.
Preceded in death by her parents, Eugene B. and Louise J. (nee Cassani) Mattei.
Survived by her devoted children, Brian Masterson, and Gena Pilon; five cherished grandchildren, Nina (Dalton Weaver) Pilon, Grant (Holly) Pilon, Abigail Pilon, Andrew (McKenna) Masterson, and Alexander "AJ" Masterson; precious great granddaughter, Lola Marie- Gray Pilon; her loving sister, Janie (Chuck) Corso; dear nephew, Michael (Joan) Papes, and niece, Renee (Jim) Arnold; and many special cousins. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Providence Catholic High School the Helen Merkelis Scholarship Fund, the American Italian Cultural Society would be greatly appreciated or have a Mass said in Maria's name.
Her kindness, caring and concern for others are cherished memories, Heaven is her eternal reward.
Memorial Visitation Tuesday, December 30, 2025, in the O'Neil Funeral Home chapel 1105 E. 9th St. Lockport, IL 60441 from 9:00am until prayers at 10:30am. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Cathedral of St. Raymond Nonnatus, Joliet on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, at 11:30am. Inurnment following Mass at Saint Patricks Cemetery, Joliet.
