Maria Olvera Chapa Obituary
Maria was born on November 29, 1934, in Brownsville, TX to Guadalupe Olvera and Juanita Leal Olvera. She was the 2nd eldest child of 8 children. Maria grew up along Hwy 4 in route to Boca Chic Beach where her parents owned and operated the original 6 Sisters Drive-In.
She graduated from Pointe Isabel High School (Port Isabel, TX) in 1955. Shortly thereafter, she married the love of her life, Arnulfo F. Chapa, on June 12, 1955. Together they shared a profound love and built a life filled with respect, commitment and dedication. They raised 2 daughters: Blanca and Jo Anna. Maria had a passion for long camping and fishing trips at Boca Chica Beach with her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Maria is preceded in death by her husband, Arnulfo F. Chapa; parents, Guadalupe Olvera and Jaunita Leal Olvera; siblings: Emilia Guadalupe Kelley, Olga Ortega and Juanita Ortega; and a great-great granddaughter, Lindsaiah Gonzalez.
She is survived by her daughters, Blanca Santillana and Jo Anna Chapa; 4 grandchildren: Michelle Montes, Noe Cortez, Mia Rocha, AJ Santillana; 15, great grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; siblings, Aurora Garza, Francisco Olvera, Rosalinda Castro, Dolores Velez; numerous nieces and nephews.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services. Maria had one final wish to have her ashes scattered at Boca Chica Beach by her great-grandson James Meier.
