Maria Jessica "Mj" Olvera

Maria Jessica Olvera (MJ), age 27, passed away unexpectedly April 6, 2023 in Houston, Texas.
Visitation: 5 – 8PM Monday, April 17 at Lake Shore Funeral Home
Funeral Service: 10AM Tuesday, April 18 at St. Francis on the Brazos, 315 Jefferson Ave, Waco, Tx 76701.
Burial: 11AM Tuesday, April 18 at China Spring Cemetery
She was born June 14, 1995 in Clifton, Texas to Jose Celerino and Ofelia Olvera.
Jessica was a 2013 China Spring graduate. She would recall to her family about her hard time learning in school; yet, she valued her diploma since it was a testament to an education her parents provided for her when they themselves could not go to school. She went on to study at MCC for her Associate's degree.
Everyone knew her as either Jessica or MJ; however, everyone could agree that she was an avid singer, an advocate for animals, and a friend to all. Friends would often find her singing karaoke and songs at venues throughout Waco and Cleburne. When she was not spending her time singing, she loved spending time with her herd of pets that she had at home. Many knew of her passion for her pet chickens, especially her hens, Britney and Modie, and her silky roosters, Chris and Tiro. Her family and friends were also familiar with her inability to leave an animal behind; Jessica often would bring home any animal that she wished to help heal and find a home. She had dreamed of being either a singer or a veterinarian when she was a young girl.
Jessica's humor and congenial nature attracted everyone she ever met to her shining spirit. She enjoyed living her life to the fullest by having as much fun as she could with her extensive circle of friends from all over Texas. She never shied away from a tough undertaking, and she sought to find her own way ahead when it came to her goals of owning her first car, her first home, and opening more restaurants through her job at Twin Peaks. No one who met MJ could deny that she was determined, and she would always get back up even when she fell "with tears in her eyes".
Her vibrance and charisma will forever be remembered in the hearts of her family and friends. Flowers, condolences, and stories about Jessica are welcomed by the family during this time.
She is preceded in death by her three grandfathers, J.L. Davis, Juan Lopez, and Nilo Olvera; grandmother, Marcelina Tapia; her beloved cats, Simon and Preston, and her many pets throughout the years.
She is survived by her parents, Jose and Ofelia; two sisters, Ana and Valerie Olvera; two grandmothers, Pat Davis, and Crecensia Rojas.
