Maria Phillip

Maria "Corky" Phillip, age 77, of Palm Springs, CA, formerly of Granite City, IL, passed away on Sunday, February 9, 2014 in Palm Springs, CA. Corky was born on May 24, 1936 in Granite City, IL, a daughter to the late Ortilio and Jessie (Rangel) Castillo. On September 12, 1981, Corky married Andrew Phillip and he preceded her in death on April 28, 2001. Corky was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Granite City, IL. She had retired from American Red Cross after many years of dedicated service, after retirement she continued to work as a volunteer at American Red Cross. Corky will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. In addition to her parents and husband, Corky was preceded in death by two sons, Brandon and Matthew Scanlan. She is survived by her loving grandson, Michael Scanlan of Granite City, IL; two great-grandsons, Mathew and Steven; three sisters, Jenny, Theresa and Irene; one brother, Norman; and her dear friend, Martha Rojas. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road, Granite City, IL In celebration of her life, Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 20, 2014 at Holy Family Catholic Church, Granite City, IL with Father Manuel Cuizon officiating.
