Maria Consuelo Rubin Achurra

Maria Consuelo Rubin Achurra was born on November 29, 1935 in a province named Iloilo in the Philippines. She was the 2nd oldest of 6 and the only girl. She went to an all girls Catholic school all through elementary and high school and had very strong faith in God at a very young age. She went to college at Adamson University in Manila where she met my dad Reynaldo Achurra (deceased) in Chemistry class. They married in June 22, 1957 and had sons Michael, John, Reynaldo Jr every year consecutively.
She was always stylish in the way she dressed, her hair and makeup always done. Because of her love of the beauty industry, she went on to receiving her cosmetology license in 1962. Reynaldo was offered a Senior Chemist position for Dutch Boy Paint in Chicago in 1967. Maria and Reynaldo were separated for almost 3 years, and during that time she raised her 3 sons in Manila waiting for immigration papers to be approved. They finally reunited in the fall of 1971. In January 1972, she had a girl, Maria Victoria Hanak.
Maria was always resilient and wanted to be her own boss. Being in a new country, she wanted to meet new friends and missed her homeland. She joined a Filipino club named Kahirup that had members from her home town and the surrounding the Visayan Islands. She was elected Vice President of the club and was very active with the Filipino community.
She received her cosmetology license as well as a real estate license because she loved meeting new people and had a vibrant personality. In 1977, her dream came true and she opened up her own hair salon "Connie Achurra's Magic Touch". It was a thriving business for 10 years and then she decided she wanted to travel more and spend time with her grandchildren.
She was a selfless woman who loved her family so much, would be there for a friend in need, had a strong faith in God, and a woman of grit and perseverance. She leaves behind a legacy that is unmatched.
She is survived by her sons Michael, (wife Noely) granddaughter Michaela (husband Chris Pagano) son John, son Reynaldo Jr. (Wife Liza), her three brothers Arturo, Alipio Jr. and Antonio, grandson Kiko (wife Lauren) great grandchildren Sienna, Kayden, Bria, and only daughter Maria Victoria (husband Jeffrey Hanak) grandchildren Noah, Ava, James, and Julien.

Funeral Monday, January 23 at 10:30 AM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Naperville.
