Maria E. Stigliano

Maria E. (Splendorio) Stigliano, 79, of Succasunna, NJ passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025. Born and raised in Newark, NJ, she was a twenty-five year resident of both Belleville and Roxbury, NJ. A woman of strong faith, Maria was one of the first parishioners of Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark. From her home on Clifton Avenue, across the street from the cathedral, she marveled as she watched it being built and always felt like she was home when she walked through the doors.
Prior to retiring, she was an executive secretary with Crum & Forster in Morristown and previously with Monarch Electric in Fairfield, NJ for many years.
An experienced poker player, Maria also enjoyed trips to any casino and was ready at a moment's notice. Her greatest joy came from taking care of her beloved family, family was everything. Mama Stigs, as she was affectionately known, will be missed by all who knew her.
Loving mother of Tommy Stigliano and Michael Stigliano and wife Deanne. Adored grandmother of Torianna, Thomas, Angelina and Michael. Cherished sister of Nancy Allen and Michael and Ralph Splendorio. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Maria is predeceased by her beloved parents Angelina (Colatrella) and Ralph Splendorio and her loving companion Albert C. Hedlund.
The family will receive relatives and friends Saturday, February 15, 2024, noon to 4 pm at Shook's Cedar Grove Funeral Home, 486 Pompton Avenue, Cedar Grove, NJ. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, February 18, 2025, 10 am at Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart, 89 Ridge Street, Newark, NJ. Kindly meet directly at church. Entombment will follow mass at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Maria to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital would be appreciated.
