Maria Villela Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Castillo Funeral Home on Dec. 4, 2025.
Maria Bernal Villela
Affectionately known as "Tia Mary", Maria Bernal Villela entered into rest on November 18, 2025, at the age of 86.

Born in San Antonio, Texas, on January 19, 1939, to Marcelino and Salome Bernal Villela, Maria was a lifelong resident of the city she cherished. A devoted daughter, she lovingly cared for her mother in her later years, embodying the selfless spirit that defined her life.

Tia Mary's heart of gold and radiant smile could ease any worry. She was a bright light to her family and community, always ready with a listening ear, a warm hug, and a contagious laugh. A true keeper of memories, she treasured the mementos from countless family gatherings, church events, and special occasions-each one a story she delighted in sharing. Her kindness, loyalty, and strength touched all who knew her and remain an enduring inspiration.

She will be remembered for her cheerful spirit and her favorite running joke: whenever asked her age, she would reply with a playful grin, "15." Maria's compassion extended beyond her family, as she faithfully cared for the neighborhood cats, ensuring bowls of food were always waiting on her porch. Her presence had a way of lifting burdens and bringing joy.

Maria was preceded in death by her parents, Marcelino and Salome B. Villela; her brothers, Paul, Juan, Raul, and Felix Villela; and her sisters, Petra Villela and Consuelo Rodriguez.

She is survived by her loving brother, Reymundo Bernal Villela, and his family; her nephews, Jesse Quiroga and Daniel Rodriguez (wife Leslie); numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members; and her beloved pet, "Nemo." Her memory will forever live in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
