Marian Morrison Henderson

Marian Morrison Henderson July 25, 1910 - May 25, 2007 A talented and caring teacher of young children, Marian Henderson lived all of her almost 97 years in the Valley of the Sun. She was born in Phoenix and was the third eldest of nine children. Marian moved to Mesa after marrying D. Evan Morrison, and they raised four children: David E. Morrison, M.D., John M. Morrison, Mary Morrison Hamlin, and Sidney Kelly Morrison, PhD Pharmacy. Marian loved music, tennis and gardening. At the age of 17, she won the prestigious Southwest Invitational Tennis championship. She was a long time member of the First Methodist Church choir and encouraged her children to appreciate and perform musically. She was an avid gardener and took pleasure in caring for her beds of flowers. Marian participated in Eastern Star, square dancing, and other civic clubs while teaching in the Mesa Public Schools until her retirement. At the age of 85, she married Kenneth Henderson, PhD Education. Dr. Henderson was a retired professor of mathematics at the University of Illinois. Together and in good health, they enjoyed and traveled to a number of family graduations and weddings over the next seven years. One sister and two brothers survive Marian: Jean Taylor Stewart, Sidney Taylor of Phoenix, and Edgar Taylor of McAllen, TX. She leaves her four children, nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren who will miss her wisdom and perseverance.
