Marian Jacobs Obituary
Published by Legacy on Nov. 12, 2025.
Marian L. Jacobs, age 84, of Greene, passed away on Sunday, November 2, 2025 (All Souls Day), at her home surrounded by her loving family praying the Rosary.
Born Marian Louise Roseberry on February 23, 1941 in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the 3rd of 7 children. She was the daughter of Percy and Mary "Betty" (Cunningham) Roseberry. During her childhood, Marian went to 7 different schools. Percy loved to live in the country while Betty loved to live in town which meant rotating schools every few years. Marian was never a fan of this arrangement and having to make new friends all over again. However, her fondest memory was of her time in LaPorte City. She loved horses and her newest friend, Carolyn, just happened to have 3. Marian often spent the weekends at Carolyn's riding horses and having adventures also enjoying fresh squeezed orange juice in the morning from Carolyn's mom. This was definitely a treat, so she would help clean up the table and do the dishes as a thank you. Unfortunately, the time came to move and off to a different school to start over again. Marian graduated from St. Mary's High School in Waterloo in 1959 which was the last graduating class. It then became Columbus High School. After high school, Marian worked as a secretary at an Insurance Company in Waterloo for several years. She met her husband, Richard Jacobs, at the Janesville Ballroom while at one of the many dances. On December 2, 1961, Marian and Richard were united in marriage at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Waterloo. Richard did carpentry for a year and then started farming which was his dream. Marian helped with the livestock and grain while also raising their family. It was a true team effort. When Richard and Marian retired from farming, they moved into Greene where she continued to support him now in his hobbies of woodworking, fishing and hunting.
Richard and Marian were members of St. Mary Catholic Church in Greene for many years. Later, Marian joined St. Philomena Catholic Church in Bremer because of her love for the Latin Mass. She was very devoted to her Catholic faith and love of Blessed Mother Mary and the Rosary. She was a pure soul who found good in everyone. She often said, To God be the Glory; All to the Glory of God; All in God's time; God is so good; Everything happens for a reason. Her faith and love of God was such a blessed example.
Marian's last wishes were for no visitation, and to have the Latin Requiem Mass with her immediate family who she loved and cherished.
Survivors include her children, David Jacobs of Mason City, Jeff (Robin) Jacobs of Greene and Dee (Tim) Powers of Lisbon; 4 grandchildren, Fr. Joshua Jacobs, Jordan (Christina) Jacobs, Tanner (Sam) Jacobs and Jackson Powers; 11 great-grandchildren, Magdalene, Tobias, Philomena, Theodore, Francis, Josephina, Anastasia, Charles and Philip Jacobs, and Bennett and Henry Jacobs; brother, Jim (Sharon) Roseberry of Wichita, KS and many nieces and nephews.
Marian was preceded in death by her parents, Percy and Betty; her husband, Richard; children, Melinda and infant Stephen, and siblings, Bob, Carol, Patricia, Alice and Nita.
Thank you to the Waverly Health Center for their great care during her illness and especially their excellent cooking. The cod sandwich being her favorite. We also appreciate St. Croix hospice for their kindness and help during the last of her illness.
