Marian Lucille Johnson age 83 of Waverly, IA, formerly of Nashua, IA, died Sunday, November 9, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family.
No formal services will be held.
Marian Lucille Johnson, a cherished soul known for her loving and selfless nature, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, in Waverly, Iowa. Born on August 19, 1942, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the daughter of Ralph and Mildred (Usher) O'Neill. Marian's life was a tapestry of warm memories, woven from her many passions and the deep relationships she fostered over the years.
Growing up in the Nashua area, Marian was a proud graduate of Nashua High School, class of 1960. It was there that her life became intertwined with Chuck Johnson, a friendship that blossomed into a beautiful love story. The two were united in marriage on January 25, 1963, at the United Methodist Church in Nashua, a union that would be graced with the joy of four wonderful children: Mike, Brad, Angie, and Jennifer.
Marian's professional journey was marked by her tenure as an administrative assistant, where her friendly demeanor made her a favorite amongst her colleagues. Her career included various businesses where she contributed with her organizational skills and team spirit. Despite her professional achievements, Marian's most cherished role was that of a stay-at-home mom. She took immense pride in raising her children, a testament to her nurturing and devoted character.
Marian's interests painted a picture of a woman deeply connected to the simple pleasures of life. Her hands were rarely still, as she had a passion for anything that involved a needle and thread. An exceptionally skilled seamstress and quilter, Marian lovingly crafted clothing for her family during their younger years, each stitch a symbol of her enduring love.
Her green thumb brought life to her garden, a sanctuary where she found peace and solace. Marian's love for nature extended to the avian world, as she was an avid bird watcher, delighting in the diverse species that visited her yard. These moments of tranquility and wonder were precious to her.
But above all, Marian's heart belonged to her grandchildren. She reveled in her role as a grandmother, cherishing every opportunity to spend time with them. Her dedication knew no bounds, as she would go to great lengths to support and nurture her grandchildren, leaving a legacy of unconditional love.
Marian Lucille Johnson's life was one of unwavering love and selflessness. Her memory will be tenderly held in the hearts of all who knew her, a reminder of the beauty of a life well-lived.
Marian is survived by her husband, Chuck Johnson of Waverly, IA; four children, Mike (Stacey) Johnson of Waverly, IA, Brad (Almaz) Johnson of Hudson, WI, Angie (Nick) Rouse of Urbandale, IA, and Jennifer (Wes) Thompson of Olathe, KS; fifteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, Fran (Sue) Buckel of Iowa Falls, IA, Chuck (Julie) Buckel of Eyota, MN; one sister, Mary White of Nashua, IA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Dale O'Neill.
Memorials can be made in Marian's honor in the form of a donation to Cedar Valley Hospice in Waverly, IA.
