Marianne Dalton
May 11, 1929 – January 5, 2026

Marianne Dalton passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, following an extended illness, surrounded by love. She lived a long and meaningful life rooted in faith, family, and service to others.

Marianne was born on May 11, 1929, in New York City to Betty and Sebastian Hirsch. She shared a lifelong and cherished bond with her beloved fraternal twin brother, Max Hirsch. Marianne graduated from Holy Name High School in Manhattan, where she served as president of her class. She continued her education at business school and later worked at Bay Transportation for several years before marrying.

Marianne was the devoted wife of Joseph Dalton, with whom she shared 46 years of marriage until his passing on December 22, 2000. Together, they built a loving home in Yorktown Heights, New York, where Marianne was a proud and active resident for over 60 years. Their home was filled with laughter, strong values, and a deep commitment to family and community.

A lifelong parishioner of St. Patrick's Church and School in Yorktown Heights, Marianne's faith was a steady and guiding presence throughout her life. She generously gave of her time and talents to the parish community and was especially proud to serve as a gym instructor at St. Patrick's School, where she touched the lives of countless students with her warmth, encouragement, and steady spirit.

Professionally, Marianne dedicated her career to helping others as a paraprofessional with Family Services of Westchester County. Her compassion, patience, and genuine concern for people were evident in all she did. Helping families, children, and those in need was not simply her work-it was her calling.

Marianne was a loving and devoted mother of four children: Joseph Dalton and his wife, Kim DeMatteo; Barbara Dalton; Robert Dalton and his wife, Diane Dalton; and Patricia Dalton and her husband, Jim Lorey. She took immense joy in children and babies and cherished her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother.

Living to the age of 96 gave Marianne the special gift of watching her grandchildren grow into young men and seeing their lives unfold. She is survived by her grandchildren Joseph Dalton, Kyle Bevis, Ryan Dalton, and Nolan Dalton, and her great-grandchildren Fiona Dalton, Patrick Dalton, Caleb Bevis, and Ella Bevis. She was predeceased by her infant granddaughter, Elizabeth Dalton-Bevis.

Marianne is further survived by her niece Kristine Hirsch-Murphy; nephews John and Stephen Hirsch and their families; her beloved cousin Karl Brunhuber and his wife Jane; Jean Brunhuber; and many members of the McQuillan/Brunhuber and Bevis families. She was predeceased by her cousins Kurt Brunhuber and Hermine Brunhuber-McQuillen, who held a special place in Marianne's life and was honored to stand with her as her maid of honor at her wedding.

Marianne was also blessed with many lifelong friends, all of whom held a special place in her heart. She deeply cherished these friendships, especially her annual road trips to Peconic Bay in Hampton Bays, Long Island, with her dear girlfriends Gloria, Joan, Leila, and her cousin Hermine. These trips were filled with laughter, storytelling, and enduring bonds-traditions she looked forward to each year and held close to her heart.

Marianne resided in Yorktown Heights until the final seven years of her life, when she lived in Red Hook, New York, with her son Robert and daughter-in-law Diane. During those years, she was lovingly cared for by her family and remained surrounded by devotion, comfort, and love until her passing.

Her legacy lives on through the many lives she touched as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, family service worker, Cub Scout den mother, and friend.

She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
