With a heavy heart but a grateful spirit, we share that Marianne Loureiro, 64, of Cumberland, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, at Heritage Hills Nursing Home in Smithfield - a place that came to know both her stubborn streak and her fierce heart.

Born in Providence to the late Manuel and Natalie (Andrade) Loureiro, Marianne was a proud lifelong resident of Cumberland. Her roots ran deep, and so did her love for her family, her friends, and her favorite pastimes
She was a 1978 graduate of Cumberland High School.

If you ever wandered into the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, chances are you were greeted by Marianne's signature smirk behind the bar - quick with a wisecrack, quicker with a refill. She spent many years there, becoming more than a bartender - she was a storyteller, a shoulder to cry on, and a fiercely loyal friend to everyone for the more than 30 years she worked there. She also brought her humor and hustle to Parente's Restaurant and Pizza Inn, making loyal fans wherever she worked. Marianne was also a member of the Women's Auxiliary at the VFW Post 14, Broad Street in Cumberland. She was the longtime companion of the late Mike Sherlock.

A faithful communicant of Our Lady of Fatima Church, Marianne believed in tradition, community, and keeping people in line - usually with a well-timed quip. She was a master of Cribbage and all card games alike, and she held an almost supernatural ability to recall birthdays, anniversaries, and the kind of trivia you'd swear no one remembered - but she always did.

Marianne didn't just "have a sense of humor" - she was a sense of humor. Sharp, sarcastic, and hilarious, she had a gift for connecting with people, even (and sometimes especially) when she was giving them a hard time. She loved deeply, laughed loudly, and always told it like it was.

She leaves behind a family who adored her: her brother Manuel Loureiro Jr. and his wife Roberta of Cumberland; her sister Annemarie Lyons and her husband Tim of Smithfield; her nieces Amber Wild of Cumberland and Ashley Beauvais of Newport; her nephew Manuel Loureiro III of Cumberland; and a circle of great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, and extended family who will forever carry her stories - and her sass - in their hearts.

In honoring Marianne, we remember that love can be loud, laughter can be healing, and a good hand of cards (with a better story to go with it) can sometimes say more than words ever could.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, 135 Broad St, Cumberland, RI 02864.
