Marie Elmase Catulle "Lélène"
December 10, 1949 – December 2, 2025
Today, we gather with full hearts to honor and celebrate the life of Marie Elmase Catulle, affectionately known to all of us as "Lélène." Born on December 10, 1949, in Croix-des-Bouquets, La Ferme Blanchard, Pont-Michaud, Haiti, she was the beloved daughter of Tracy and the late Marceline Laurent.
She grew up in a large, loving family, surrounded by her siblings-
The late Monanque Laurent, the late Charlina "Conserve" Laurent, the late Genevieve Laurent, the late Christophe Laurent, the late Danielle Laurent, the late Christine Laurent, Viergéma Laurent, Génèse Laurent, Maude Laurent, Elda Laurent, and Anerose Laurent-a family woven together with love, laughter, resilience, and the deep-rooted Haitian values that shaped her into the woman we celebrate today.
On September 14, 1968, Lélène married the love of her life, Federique Catulle, and together they built a home filled with devotion, courage, and faith. They raised five children:
Jean Gardinair Catulle, Marie Esther Catulle (Pierre Louis Innocent), Jessica Catulle (Gachekim Mazama), the late Marie Antoinette Catulle, and the late Marie Carmelle Catulle.
Her love lives on through her five cherished grandchildren:
Stamanta Nirva Innocent, Pierre Lens Innocent, Zemaëll Innocent, Gache'Jessy Jude Mazama, and Jeremiah Mazama, along with her precious great-granddaughter, Khalessi Ann Flowers.
She was also a beloved aunt to many nieces and nephews:
Druce Conserve, Fadahell Conserve, Glenique Conserve, Margarette Conserve, Juditte Conserve, Ermilie Laurent, Eric Romelus, Germanie Martin, Edwin Pierre, Wesly Pierre, Maudis Parks, Jean Jacques Dorisme, Ysedite Simeon, Maugline Laurent, Masteur Laurent, Sophia Laurent, Marie Yvedy Laurent, Obens Marcelus, Romulus Marcelus, Bigens Laurent, Dagober Laurent, Woodlyn Janvier, Jessie Sherley Janvier, and her grand-niece and grand-nephews:
Joanne Gabriel, James Gabriel, Sammel Gabriel, Fabienne Conserve, Jeremiah Eloy, Choodle Eloy, ChooNiah Eloy, Lawrence Simeon, Samara Simeon, Keziah Simeon, Denzell Bourguillon, Darnika Laurent, Dakari Laurent, Mikaylah Parks, Alim Parks Jr., Makenzie Parks, Marie Janelle Pierre, Nehemie Laurent, Tracey Ferville, Steve Mura Ferville, Roodchil Altidor, Betchy Altidor, Steven Conserve, Faydra Conserve, Wicknise Conserve, Handy Paul, and Norhalie Paul.
She was also a devoted Godmother to Gabriell Florestal, Jetro Romelle, and Manoucheca.
Every single one of them held a special place in her heart.
She came from Haiti, carrying with her the values, courage, and determination that defined her life. In 2001, she made the brave journey to the United States, driven by the hope of building a better future for her children. Every sacrifice she made-every long day she worked and every challenge she faced-she carried with quiet strength and unwavering love.
She owned a small restaurant in Haiti, and when she came to the United States, she worked at McDonald's as a cleaner and prep cook until she retired. She was well known for her pâté kod, marinad, and bouyon.
She worked hard not for recognition, but because caring for her family gave her purpose. Her love was steady and dependable-an unshakable foundation that held the family together. Her grandchildren were among her greatest joys. They brought her happiness, laughter, and pride, and she gave them in return a deep and gentle love that will remain with them forever.
Without forgetting the Laurent family, Catulle, Florestal, Vicksama, Thenor, Caruis and her dear friends. To them, she was warmth. To us, she was comfort. To everyone who knew her, she was home.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025, at the Haitian Evangelical Baptist Church, 6045 W. Jersey Ave., Egg Harbor Twp, NJ from 9:30 AM – 10:00 AM where the home-going service will begin at 10:00 AM.
