Marie Curran, age 100, of Shelton, peacefully entered into rest on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 in her home. She was the wife of the late Matthew Riccio and the late William Curran. Marie was born in Shelton on February 21, 1922, daughter of the late Philip and Catherine (Carriero) Giannino, and she lived in Shelton for the majority of her life. She earned an RN from Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing, and her BS and Masters in Nursing Education from Columbia University. Marie worked as an RN at Bridgeport Hospital and then as the Supervisor of Health Services for the Town of Stratford. After her retirement, she volunteered for the Red Cross and Stratford Public Health. Marie loved to garden and was a fantastic cook. She is the beloved mother of Bonnie Smith and her husband Stephen of Shelton, and Kathleen Huffman and her husband Scott of Grand Prairie, TX. She is survived by three cherished grandchildren, Brian Smith and his wife Adrienne Hollander, Alison Smith, and Jacob Huffman; two great-grandchildren, Ari and Zev Smith; and her sister, Carmella Finer. She also leaves her devoted caregiver for the last 7 years, Regina Clemons. Marie was predeceased by her sister, Martha Skovanek. Friends may greet the family at the Riverview Funeral Home, 390 River Road, Shelton, on Sunday from 2 to 5 pm. On Monday, friends are invited to go directly to St. Lawrence Church, 505 Shelton Ave., for her Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am. Her burial will be privately held with her immediate family in attendance.
