Durham, North Carolina - Marie R. Godwin, age 90, died in Durham on August 23, 2025. She was born on November 27, 1934, to the late Wayland and Virginia Riggsbee of Morrisville, NC.
She graduated from Apex High School. In her early years, she worked at Liggett Myers Tobacco Co. in Durham, was a homemaker with her two children, and later was a teacher's assistant at Lowes Grove Elementary School for 24 years until she retired in 1997.
Marie is survived by her two sons, Buddy and Kevin Godwin; a daughter in-law, Karen Godwin; and three grandsons: Kendall, Brian, and Adam Godwin. Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Gus T. Godwin; and grandson, Nathan Godwin.
Her Celebration of Life Service will be Saturday, September 6, 2025, at Lowes Grove Baptist Church in Durham at 1:00 pm, with Visitation at 12:30 pm. A reception will immediately follow in the Lowes Grove Fellowship Hall with light refreshments.
In lieu of flowers or donations, prayers and remembrance are your greatest gifts.
