Shaw-Davis Funeral Homes & Cremation Services - Clintonville ChapelMarie Anita Gibboney Hensel, age 94, of Powell, OH, passed away peacefully on 11/21/25 with her family by her side.
Born on 4/15/31 in Columbus, OH to Angela Cauley Gibboney and Lester Vance Gibboney. Marie was a graduate of St. Thomas the Apostle grade school and St. Mary of The Springs high school. Marie was proud of maintaining the friendships she cultivated while at school and happily attended her school reunions for over 50 years.
Marie married William Earl Hensel Jr. on August 20, 1955. She was a homemaker to their five children and active in the PTA. Marie was a dedicated member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church and then a founding member of St. St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. She served on the building committee when St. Joan was being designed. Marie’s Catholic faith was very important to her, and she served as a volunteer on various ministries throughout the years often making the altar cloths, vestments for the priests, baptismal cloths, and serving as a Eucharistic Minister.
Marie was a proud Irish American and loved celebrating her heritage with her large extended family on St. Patrick’s Day. She loved to sing, play the piano and entertain.
Marie is survived by sons Dennis M. (Leticia) Hensel, Kenneth M. (Ashly) Hensel, and daughters Sheila M. (Winfield) Sapp, Molly A. (Russell) Richmond, Meghan C. (Daniel) Calder and grandchildren Anton (Vicky) Russell, Heidi Hensel, William (Justin) Ables-Hensel, Mia Hensel, Emily Hensel, Jacqueline Hensel, Claire Sapp, LeeAnn Sapp, Cassady Calder, Carrington Calder and Kit Calder She is survived by sisters-in-law Ruth Mulligan, Lois Hess, Elizabeth Snoddy, great grandchildren and many cousins.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents Lester and Angela Gibboney and by her husband Bill, her brothers Paul, James, John, Joseph, and Charles Gibboney and sister Rita Greco, sisters-in-law Rosemary, Margaret, Patricia, and Nancy Gibboney and Mary Lou Diltz. Brothers-in-law Elmer Diltz, Robert Mulligan, Thomas Snoddy and Bruno Greco.
A funeral Mass will be held at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 10700 Liberty Road, Powell, OH on 12/05/25 at 10:00 AM. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the service. The Mass will be followed by a celebration of life meal in the Parish Hall.
